About Janet Shearer

Janet’s skill as a draftswoman are evident in her rich studies of water, which elegantly capture the colour, light and atmosphere of the North Cornish coastline and stretches of the Estuary in various seasons.

In her most recent collection of paintings of the rocky shorelines, Janet has focussed specifically upon a small stretch of the rugged coastline - between Port Quin and Polzeath. She returns regularly to this scenic area to walk, kayak, photograph, sketch and observe as the tide rolls out to reveal deep, glassy rock pools and perfectly clear views to the seabed below.

Summer 2018 was a particularly good year for clear seas around the Cornish coast, and this is reflected in Janet’s recent paintings, which capture the essence of the Atlantic Ocean in sumptuous blue and turquoise studies, punctuated by mussel-covered rocky outcrops or swimming figures, which evoke memories of spectacular summer days in Cornwall.
